Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of The Hanovers
The Kiwanis Club of The Hanovers has been organized to serve the community, and assist children and young adults throughout Whippany, Cedar Knolls and East Hanover. Our club is a snapshot of the community, with members from all walks of life.
The men and woman of our club are unified in the belief that the children and the community benefit from the efforts of a group of caring and involved volunteers.
Our charitable activities and community projects are directed at giving something back to the township, as well as helping those in need.
The Kiwanis Club of The Hanovers is a nonprofit 501(c)(4) organization.
About Kiwanis International
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
Kiwanis International was founded in 1915 by a group of volunteers joining together to form a fellowship. A higher purpose soon emerged as the group evolved into an impassioned service club helping children and young adults.
Today, with its world headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, the organization is a living, thriving body of dynamic, service-minded individuals of all ages. Members contribute their enthusiasm, time, and fund raising efforts to community projects.
Service through Kiwanis clubs reaches every age group and every community need based on the organization's theme: Serving the Children of the World. More than 600,000 members in over 70 countries are "Serving the Children of the World" through their involvement in the Kiwanis family.
Kiwanis clubs touch their communities in countless ways:
- In schools, clubs sponsor Terrific Kids programs to recognize, honor rolls, anti-drug abuse education, mentoring, shadowing projects, and scholarships.
- Kiwanis plays a special role in developing future generations of leaders:
- K-Kids at the elementary school level,
- Builders Clubs in middle school and junior highs,
- Key Clubs in high schools,
- Circle K Clubs at the collegiate level.
These are all Kiwanis organizations that help teach community service and leadership skills to young people.
- Clubs recognize the special needs population by installing mobility ramps, purchasing wheelchairs and other devices, supporting Special Olympics, and sponsoring Aktion Clubs for adults with mental and physical disabilities.
- Kiwanis clubs also address other needs of the entire community, such as working to stop substance abuse, helping the elderly, promoting literacy, funding youth sports and recreation programs, responding to disasters, and to help support individuals in need.
After the all the volunteering, service, and fund raising is over for the year, Kiwanians feel good about the positive impact they have made on local schools, hospitals, special projects, and at the very heart of Kiwanis, the people.
